Cleaning your leather products.

The same cleaning instructions apply for both cowhide leather & kangaroo leather products.

To clean your leather products I recommend using a good leather cleaner, you do not want to get the leather soaking wet, if spraying the leather cleaner onto the leather you want to only spray a little bit at a time, and get onto wiping it very quickly with a soft cloth or towel in circular motions, for more control I recommend mildly dampening a cloth with the leather cleaner & giving a good gentle wipe in circular motions. 

When done, give the leather a wipe over the area you cleaned with a dry cloth or towel.

Conditioning the Leather

Just like cleaning your leather products, same instructions apply for both cowhide leather and kangaroo leather products.

For conditioning the leather, you will want to get a good leather conditioner. I recommend you apply a drop of leather conditioner onto a cloth or towel, then gently apply it to the leather by wiping in circular motions spreading the conditioner until it’s spread out evenly. You then want to let the conditioner sit for a few minutes for the leather to absorb the conditioner. 

After a few minutes get a dry cloth or towel & wipe off any excess and buff out the area you just conditioned by again wiping the area in circular motions, just a little bit of pressure will do when buffing.

Water-proofing for hats

All my leather hats come with a couple of coatings of water-proofer before being sent out, however they do need to be sprayed every 2-3 months to maintain good water protection, especially if worn out in the rain, if you just get a bit of drizzle on the hat here and there or you don't wear it out in the rain, you won't have to apply water-proofer as regularly. 

After cleaning & conditioning you should give your leather hats a fresh coat of waterproofing spray. I use & recommend TRG Nano Protector, it’s the best leather waterproofing spray I have tested out, Collonil Waterstop is also pretty goodTo apply, simply spray an abundant and even well distributed layer, hold can 20-30cm or 6 inches away from the hat, move your arm slowly at a consistent speed when spraying to get a nice even cover. Even though you want an abundant coating, avoid too much concentration on any specific area, you want the surface to look wet, but not soaking wet or dripping wet. 2 coats should be plenty, wait 10 minutes between coats.

I recommend wearing a mask when spraying.

Some people may wax their hats instead and that offers protection too, like waxing their leather boots, however I personally prefer not to with hats as it can create a high shine.

(Even though my hats come with a coating of water-proofer on them, don't submerge them in water, and really you should not do this with any finished natural leather product anyway.)
